Fernando, Marina Bay and White Bulls: 10 Questions to a Racing Driver with Matias Zagazeta

Another week, another new guest to answer the '10 Questions'! This time it's Matias Zagazeta, the Peruvian racer currently in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine(FRECA) series.

In 2021, Matias was the British F4 runner up behind Matthew Rees, winning 4 times and taking seven other podiums from 30 races across the UK based series.

This year he races in FRECA with G4 Racing and has just made his FIA Formula 3 test debut with Charouz Racing System as the team begin to evaluate the available choices for 2023.

📸 Matias recently made his F3 testing debut with Charouz Racing System in FIA F3's end of season test at Jerez.

More importantly(maybe), he answered these '10 Questions'!

1. Hairpins or chicanes? Hairpins are more exciting as there can be some serious overtakes there!

2. Long straights or slow corners? Long straights are amazing, especially when you’re in the tow and catching the car in front is definitely a great feeling.

3. Understeer or oversteer? If someone says understeer then I’m not sure what’s going on there, with O/S you can control the car a lot more and is overall more fun!

4. Fast circuits or technical circuits? A mix of both would be perfect! Definitely love the challenge of a technical circuit.

5. Wet races or wet/dry races? Wet races have everything and there’s always more chance of things happening during the race! It’s also a lot more fun and exciting.

6. Favourite circuit you've raced? Spa Francorchamps or Monaco, Spa is overall better than Monaco purely because at Monaco it’s really difficult to overtake and made the race boring, but for a quali lap, wow… it’s just amazing!

📸...But Spa just tops it!

7. Favourite you've NOT raced? I think Singapore is a very interesting track! I would say this one is my favorite track that I’ve not raced.

8. Your favourite F1 livery ever? The White Red Bull livery from Japan is amazing! But also the classic black and gold Lotus…

9. Your favourite helmet design ever?Fernando Alonso Monaco 2013 helmet is incredible! It also inspired me with the jigsaw on top to use on my current helmets.

10. Who is the best driver you've raced against? Really difficult question! I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell as there’s some that have definitely made it very hard, but there’s a lot of talented people and each one of us is trying to reach our own goals and make our own careers so we will all give everything when we’re out on track!

A huge thanks to Matias for taking the time out to do this interview! I really hope I can do something cool with him again sometime! I wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season.

Catch Matias in action again when FRECA goes to Barcelona in mid-October for the penultimate round of the season!
