Franco Colapinto joins Williams for the remainder of the season, Sargeant out

by Alex Johnston

With immediate effect; Franco Colapinto will be in the second Williams car for the remainder of the season, replacing under fire American Logan Sargeant at the British team.

Colapinto, 21, steps up from Formula 2 - allegedly seeing off competition for the seat from Kimi Antonelli, Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawson.

Colapinto has just 14 races of F2 experience under his belt after spending two years in F3, but has been impressive, winning once and taking a further podium in what has been a competitive season in the series, featuring 15 different race winners.

Logan Sargeant leaves the team after a season and a half with the team, culminated by a poor showing in Zandvoort and featuring a caché of driver errors in his time with the Grove team. Rumours had been swirling over his future since Miami, with Kimi Antonelli originally touted for the drive - but the Italian is instead set to join the Mercedes team. Sargeant himself has been linked to IndyCar in 2025.

Colapinto will have nine races to show his skills in F1 before Carlos Sainz joins the team from 2025.

📸 Colapinto has driven the FW46 already this season in FP1 at Silverstone.
