Jack Doohan joins F1

by Alex Johnston

Alpine have confirmed ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix that Jack Doohan will race for the team in 2025. For Doohan this completes his formula ladder journey having worked his way up to the top through hard work, consistency and showing incredible speed and talent.

Doohan’s formula journey began back in 2020 when he joined Formula 3 strugglers HWA Racelab(after a stint in Euroformula), failing to score any points for the team but impressing with his consistency and ability to move through the field.

These skills attracted the attentions of Trident Racing for 2021 and Doohan would join the Italian squad for what would be a title charging season. The Australian would ultimately fall short of victory to PREMA’s Dennis Hauger but caught the eye with four wins and three further podiums as he, alongside David Schumacher and Clement Novalak, helped Trident to win the teams title.

At the end of the season Doohan would make his Formula 2 debut for MP Motorsport, qualifying on the front row at the in Abu Dhabi, in his second round having figured in Jeddah.

Invicta Racing(then known as Virtuosi Racing) picked up Doohan for the 2022 season and he hit the ground running, ending the year with three wins to his name in sixth place.

He was kept by the team for 2023, and despite a poor start to the campaign Doohan fought back up to a third place championship finish with three more wins and two further podiums despite some misfortune along the way.

Doohan would leave F2 at the end of the season and take on a more focused role as test and reserve for Alpine. This year he’s taken part in multiple test events including ones at Zandvoort and Paul Ricard and has impressed the Alpine hierarchy enough that they have decided he was ready to take up the available seat for the French team, seeing off rumoured competition from the likes of Mick Schumacher and Valtteri Bottas, among others.

On a personal note, I’m a huge fan of Jack and am very excited to see him next season, we all wish him the best for 2025.
