Because it’s off season and I’m short of ideas…Here’s a line up of 2025 drivers, but as a football team. And yes, it’s an old fashioned 4-4-2 for those clued up on their football.
Manager: Sebastian Vettel
Self explanatory. Players want a manager who is admired and leads with passion. These drivers follow Vettel like ducklings follow their mother. Legend of the game.
Goalkeeper: Nico Hulkenberg
Leading by example from the back, Hulk commands his area with his experience and expertise. I wouldn’t expect many trophies though.
Right back: Fernando Alonso
I’m actually led to believe Fernando is a decent footballer. I’ve put him in here as a solid defender, playing the old fashioned style of ‘no nonsense’. Vice captain.
Right centre back: Esteban Ocon
Tall, commanding and prepared to duel with anyone he faces. Not always the ‘on form’ player but an undoubted star in the backline. Issues with his centre back partner now swept under the rug. Full focus.
Left centre back: Max Verstappen
Mr. Dependable at the back. Gets the job done even under pressure. No messing about and rarely makes a mistake. Knows his stuff.
Left back: Lance Stroll
The old Sunday League saying is your worst player plays left back…he’s probably not that bad though - as an avid skier, he’s probably got some fairly decent footwork. Underrated.
Right winger: Kimi Antonelli
Some fresh enthusiasm down the right hand side in the form of an Italian wonderkid. The next big thing and he knows it. He is special.
Right centre midfield: Lewis Hamilton
Captain fantastic. Seen it all, done it all, won it all.
Left centre midfield: Charles Leclerc
Another one with some decent football skills outside racing. Some French flair in midfield and looks up to his captain next to him. Yes, that is him faceplanting.
Left winger: Gabriel Bortoleto
You can’t build a team and not put a Brazilian in right? A little stereotypical, but this hotshot has real skills. Potentially an elite talent but time will tell.
Strikers: Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri
The dream team up top. These two support each other when needed and compliment each other well. Both deserve limelight and will undoubtedly star in this team.
