Kyle Kirkwood, Suzuka and Camel Lotus: 10 Questions to a Racing Driver with Robert Kwon Megennis

by Alex Johnston

For an all new guest, I'm happy to welcome Robert Megennis on for this edition of '10 Questions to a Racing Driver'! The American-British-Korean driver took the time to chat with me this week!

Robert is a former Indy Lights - now Indy NXT - race winner who's competed against well established names like Kyle Kirkwood, Rinus VeeKay, Oliver Askew and David Malukas, among others.

📸 In Indy Lights with Andretti.

He's now racing in sports cars, and has competed in IMSA, Michelin Pilot Challenge and ELMS, plus a couple other series.

Onto the interview!

1. Hairpins or chicanes? Chicanes.

2. Long straights or slow corners? Long straights, makes for a good race!

3. Understeer or oversteer? Oversteer.

4. Fast circuits or technical circuits? Fast.

📸 Celebration mode!

5. Wet races or wet/dry races? Wet. For sure.

6. What’s your favourite circuit you’ve raced? Spa, maybe Road Atlanta.

📸 A favourite for many drivers, Belgium's famous Spa-Francorchamps.

7. Favourite you’ve NOT raced? Suzuka.

📸 Suzuka, a real drivers track and defines 'old school circuit'.

8. Your favourite F1 livery ever? The yellow Camel Lotus. I've been really into that recently when I've been looking back!

📸 If you're looking at this car and thinking "that's not great", I recommend you check again.

9. Your favourite helmet design ever? I've had my current one for about three years. It's kind of like a modern take on Mika Hakkinen's one!

📸 Robert's Hakkinen inspired helmet design.

10. Who is the best driver you’ve raced against? Kyle Kirkwood. As a teammate he was always the first to understand things like the track changing. So good at doing it all right. You'd look at data and he'd be so quick.

A huge thanks to Robert for taking the time out of his schedule to chat, and for managing to ignore the Williams launch that was happening downstairs from him while we chatted! We hope to bring him on again soon!
