My top 3 drivers to watch in GB3

by Alex Johnston

GB3 returns this weekend and where better to look first than the drivers? In this piece I've hand picked three who, for different reasons, will be exciting to watch in 2024.

For my first driver I'm choosing;

Hugo Schwarze

German teenager Schwarze will be an exciting prospect as he makes the step up from Ginetta cars to a single seater for the first time.

Schwarze has serious speed, finishing runner up to Formula 4 Macau podium sitter Freddie Slater in Ginetta's.

He'll be in the number 33 car for Elite Motorsport, which at some stage of this season will run our blog logo! But I'm not biased on that one...

Number two on my list is:

Jarrod Waberski

At at the risk if sounding like I just really like Elite Motorsport, I'm naming South African driver Waberski - a two time blog guest - as my second 'one to watch'.

In his rookie season with Fortec in 2023 the South African driver finished ninth in the standings, taking one podium and a high number of points finishes, becoming a symbol of consistency in the field.

In season two, the Elite Motorsport driver will certainly be hoping crack at least the top three by the end of the season.

And finally:

Nikita Johnson

American teenager Johnson will be running a partial campaign in GB3, figuring in a yet-to-be-determined number of rounds of the GB3 calendar.

At just 15, Johnson has already made his USF 2000 Pro Championship debut, the third tier on the road to IndyCar, winning two of his first five races - in a series featuring former F2 driver Lirim Zendeli, ex F3 stars Francesco Pizzi and Reece Ushijima, as well as 2022 GB3 runner Joel Granfors.

He'll race with VRD by Arden and will certainly get people talking - I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him win in GB3 this season.

Be sure to tune in to GB3 this season!
