My top 3 unraced F1 liveries

by Alex Johnston

‘Livery launch season’ is more than upon us now, with half the F1 teams now having launched their contenders.

A clear presence of exposed carbon on cars as teams look to save weight is a key talking point, but didn’t liveries used to just be better? 88 McLaren, Honda’s ‘Earth Car’, the colourful Benetton B190…I could go on. How about some that never made it race though? Below, I’ve taken a look at three contenders, but with a twist - these cars never actually brought the look to a race.

📸 The Benetton B190 - old liveries were far more exciting.

Here are; my top 3 unraced F1 liveries!

RoKit Williams 2020

Williams in 2019 and 2020 were VERY slow. That we can't hide, nor can we hide the fallout RoKit and Williams had that resulted in this livery never making it to race.

The light blue and red created an eyecatching car looked good and definitely deserved a chance to race.

Ultimately, RoKit and Williams parted ways and the team continued on their slow march away from the foot of the constructors championship.

‘Disruptobull’ Red Bull 2018

If races were won by cars that look fast, this one would win the lot. But of course, the 'Disruptobull' was only a shakedown livery for Red Bull.

In race trim(and colours), the RB14 won four races; two for Daniel Ricciardo and two for Max Verstappen during the 2018 season. Poor reliability saw the team finish third in the constructors championship with 11 combined DNF's for the drivers - Baku included.

How good would it be to see this livery in a race though?

Mastercard Lola 1997

This one was actually involved in a race weekend, but still qualifies for this article because ironically...it failed to qualify.

The Mastercard Lola team failed in every aspect of their F1 journey, apart from this livery, at least in my opinion. The bright orange sides, coupled with red, white and blue wings and features caught the eye, even where the ill fated car didn't.

The car showed up to the season opener in Australia and was an incredible 11 seconds off the pace. The team dissolved and were never seen again, despite rumours of a return in 2010.
