Next generation F2 car unveiled

Formula 2 and Dallara have unveiled the car that will serve as formula racing's final step on the ladder to Formula 1.

The new car closely mimics the look of the current iteration of Formula 1 and features a 3.4L Mecachrome engine which matches the current Dallara F2 2018 chassis and will be used from 2024 through 2026.

The engine has new features that allow F2 to run on 55% bio sourced synthetic fuel which was introduced at the start of 2023.

The car has had a successful shakedown at the Varano Circuit in July at the hands of Tatiana Calderon who recently raced in Formula 2 with Charouz Racing System in 2022. It will be run in further tests as part of the car's development programme by drivers including 2022 F2 Champion Felipe Drugovich before team's have their first car delivered in December with the second car due to be delivered mid-January.

One early bone of contention among fans is over the gearbox that features no on board starter, an issue that has led to a couple of crashes with the lack of anti-stall, which resulted in a notable start line crash between Enzo Fittipaldi and Theo Pourchaire, who had stalled at the start with Fittipaldi collecting the stricken ART car, and Fittipaldi suffering a fractured heel and cut eye. Prior to this incident, Nicholas Latifi and Arjun Maini both escaped unhurt in a similar accident on the start line in Abu Dhabi.

📸 Fittipaldi's accident with Pourchaire sparked a debate of the lack of anti-stall technology on F2 chassis'.
