Nordschleife, Brawn and “not Zandvoort”; 10 Questions to a Racing Driver with Macéo Capietto

I’m very excited about my latest guest! This time, my guest is Macéo Capietto who becomes the first driver from the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine, better known as ‘FRECA’ series to take part in this feature!

At just 16, Frenchman Macéo is a hot prospect in racing, already competing at in impressive level. At the time of writing, he’s 20th(out of the 40 who have competed so far) in the FRECA standings as he races with Monolite Racing.

Third overall in a tough French F4 season in 2021, Macéo has continued on leaps and bounds to get to the level he’s at right now.

Macéo is also the son of the PREMA Racing team manager, Guillaume Capietto. He was also coached by Anthoine Hubert, before he was tragically lost at Spa-Francorchamps in 2019.

Before I ramble further, let’s see Macéo’s answers to the ‘10 Questions’!

1. Hairpins or chicanes? Chicanes, love to throw the car around in high speed chicanes or over the curbs haha!

2. Long straights or slow corners? Long straights, best for overtaking and slow corner are kinda boring.

3. Understeer or oversteer? Oversteer, you can use it for over rotation and I usually have more front wing than everyone else to be able to carry more speed in high speed corners.

4. Fast circuits or technical circuits? Technical circuits but not Zandvoort!

📸 Zandvoort; too technical perhaps?

5. Wet races or wet/dry races? Definitely wet races, It's about pure driving and not so much about small details and I just love it.

6. What’s your favourite circuit you’ve raced? Ledenon is an amazing circuit, a lot of high speed corners on a very tight track where you can't make mistakes, and the elevation changes makes it so much better than any other track.

📸 Circuit de Ledenon, near Nimés in the South of France. The circuit is actually in a natural bowl.

7. Favourite you’ve NOT raced? I would say Mugello, it looks like such a nice track, but I’m looking forward to driving the Nordschleife soon or later (I'd love to do some GT3 around there haha!).

📸 Mugello is good..

📸 But Nordschleife would be crazy..

8. Your favourite F1 livery ever? Brawn GP BGP001 definitely, the livery and the story behind the team makes me love it. Otherwise I love the 2018 Ferrari, such a beautiful car together with the 2015 Ferrari.

📸 ..but Ferrari’s always look good.

9. Your favourite helmet design ever? Loved Lewis's old design, but vandoorne's last Fe helmet (the black and white one) is so beautiful it has to be this one.

📸 Vandoorne’s design. Looks so clean. Wow.

10. Who is the best driver you’ve raced against? Kimi Antonelli is an amazing driver, can't say otherwise.

📸 Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes junior driver, is another one to watch right now.

Massive thanks to Macéo for taking the time, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this interview and hope to speak with him again soon! I really enjoyed his answers and his mix of excited to race kid, and the mature side of him as well, really great to see!

Macéo will be in action again on the 10th and 11th of September at the Red Bull Ring in Austria alongside the Euroformula Open Championship.
