Ones to watch, episode 10: Nolan Siegel

By Alex Johnston

Nolan Siegel is very rightly the focus of this latest ‘ones to watch’ article after a quite frankly insane past 6 months.

The 19 year old Californian has enjoyed a blistering start to 2024, involving wins in Indy NXT, and LMP2 debut in the IMSA championship, his IndyCar debut, attempting to and almost managing to qualify for the Indy 500, taking a class win at the 24h of Le Mans in the LMP2 category alongside Bijoy Garg and Oliver Jarvis for United Autosports and finally…signing with Arrow McLaren for the remainder of the 2024 IndyCar season and onwards. And breathe…

📸 Le Mans celebrations at the first attempt for Nolan Siegel(second left).

Nolan Siegel’s 2024 timeline

  • Makes IMSA LMP2 debut at 24h of Daytona alongside Joao Barbosa, Jonny Edgar and Lance Willsey(January 27-28)

  • Pre-season: announced to be running at least 4 rounds of the IndyCar season for Dale Coyne Racing on weekends that don’t clash with Indy NXT

  • Wins opening round of the Indy NXT season at St. Petersburg(March 10)

  • Makes IndyCar debut with Dale Coyne Racing at the Thermal Club ‘Million Dollar Challenge’, failing to qualify.(March 24)

  • Back in Indy NXT action taking two more podiums in the run up to the Indy 500 tests(April 28/May 10)

  • Attempts to qualify for the Indy 500 with Dale Coyne - missing out after a strong showing but a crash on his final run sees him bumped(May 19)

  • Makes IndyCar race debut with Juncos Hollinger at Road America, withdrawing from the Indy NXT race despite initially planning to run both series(June 9)

  • Wins for United Autosports at the 24h if Le Mans in the LMP2 category - at the first attempt(June 15-16)

  • Announced to join Arrow McLaren with immediate effect for the remainder of the IndyCar season and onwards(June 18)

📸 Celebrations for a winner, podiums and heartache - Nolan Siegel’s season has been like no other.

Despite never winning a championship, Siegel has so far based his success on consistency, taking fourth overall in his 2022 Indy Pro 2000 campaign and fifth in his rookie Indy NXT campaign in 2024, while at the time of writing he sits fourth in Indy NXT, which he’s now withdrawn from to focus on IndyCar.

Very much one to watch, and perhaps now he’s on McLaren’s roster - one we could see take part in F1 and Formula E tests, among others.
