Ones to watch, episode six: Kush Maini

by Alex Johnston

For the latest 'Ones to watch' piece, I'm focusing on Indian driver Kush Maini, who currently is racing for Campos Racing in FIA Formula 2.

A recent addition to the Alpine Academy set up and rumoured to be joining F2 front runners Invicta Virtuosi for 2024, 23 year old Maini also has found a mentor in the shape of two time Formula 1 champion Mika Hakkinen, so the future looks very bright as he sits 11th in his rookie season, scoring one podium and multiple points finishes.

📸 As far as mentors go, 2 time F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen is a good way to go.

Maini first came to my attention when he was announced by MP Motorsport for the 2022 FIA Formula 3 season in which he partnered established names Caio Collet, Alex Smolyar and for one round, Filip Ugran.

The brother of ex-F2 driver Arjun Maini finished 15th in his one and only F3 season, scoring a single podium at the Hungaroring.

He's mustered a single podium so far in F2, finishing third behind Dennis Hauger and Jak Crawford in the sprint race in Melbourne, but with one round to go could get a crack at more honours.

📸 Maini is in his rookie F2 season but has impressed many with his pace already.

2024 looks promising with a new world champion mentor, a potential new team and teammate, and new backing from Formula 1 in the shape of Alpine.

Could Kush Maini be a title contender in 2024? He's in with a very good chance.
