The 2024 Formula 1 season has been an ever changing and exciting one, and there is speculation that a change could occur in both the Drivers and Constructors Championships. In this article I will write about the chance that a change could happen in the Constructors Championship among three of the current top teams.
McLaren
Coming into 2024 McLaren was seen as a strong contender for wins and championships but began the season in Bahrain and Jeddah with no podiums. Australia however, was the turning point with Lando finishing third after a position swap with teammate Oscar Piastri.
Mclaren in my opinion are the strongest contenders for the Constructors Championship after an upwards trajectory since Miami brings Mclaren to just 42 points behind Red Bull. If Mclaren continue this trajectory after the summer break I predict McLaren could take first place in the Constructors Championship by Baku. Mclaren have consistently scored over 30 points as a team for many races whilst Red Bull have only been averaging around 18-25, and even sometimes less.
Red Bull
Red Bull were consistently the most dominant car in F1 for two years being 2022 and 2023 and coming into 2024 it was thought to be the same. However, Red Bull Racing have been lacking behind with upgrades this season and teams such as Mercedes and McLaren have caught up drastically.
With the disappointment of Sergio Perez not performing, it was a shock to many to see him continuing with the team for the rest of the season. I predict that Perez will not be on form for the rest of the season and will continue to lose Red bull valuable points in the Constructors Championship. However, Max is a force to be reckoned with as he may continue to win races after the break and destroy any hopes of a McLaren championship win.
Red Bull in my opinion are not strong enough to hold onto the championship and may even drop to third if the form continues and other teams keep closing the gap every race.
Ferrari
Finally the team i think could have a chance to win the constructors is Ferrari. With a third place finish for the start of the season at most venues and wins for both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, Ferrari seemed to be back to form and seemed to have chances for both championships.
However disappointment arose when races began to swing towards other teams and Ferrari failed to deliver, some examples being Canada and Silverstone where, especially Charles Leclerc's strategy and car, began giving the Monegasque struggles to gain points for the team. Ferrari although recently showed some upgrades and improvements in the Belgian Grand Prix with Leclerc finishing third after Russell’s disqualification ahead of both Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.
In my opinion, Ferrari could take second position of the constructors from Red Bull at the end of the season if this upwards trend continues at the team.
So My top 5 for the Constructors at the end of the season are
1. McLaren
2. Ferrari
3. Red Bull
4. Mercedes
5. ‘VCARB’
