To the people with a platform…

by Alex Johnston

Lance Stroll, like any other driver is under constant watch and scrutiny from F1 and it's fans. Already this weekend in Qatar he's made headlines for perhaps the wrong reasons.

But this isn't about him to begin with, this is about the fans of this sport who seem to think the best thing to do is make light of Lance's situation and take the absolute piss out of him on social media. For what? The sake of a few likes from thousands of people they don't know?

And I'm not just talking about the odd 'keyboard warrior' on 'X' or 'Instagram', posting a meme or a mean comment. I'm talking about those with a platform. One of them, a TikToker/content creator with an eccentric haircut and a microphone who seems to think attacking Lance with words like "spastic"(which was also spelled incorrectly) and "failed abortion" are socially acceptable. Anyone reading this, report that idiot, do not give him a platform.

The other, two British guys who built two F1 related blogs, websites and podcasts from the ground up, have almost 1m 'X' followers and are given TV time by the likes of Sky Sports. But I eat was they think posting speculation, videos that come off as 'clickbait' and memes about Lance is a clever way to get a few new likes, those two of all people, should know better.

To the people reading this, Lance will be the first to admit he was wrong, acted out of character and has had a poor start to his weekend, and I assume will have apologised to all the appropriate people. I get the idea Lance is a chilled out, friendly guy who is living out his dreams at the pinnacle of motorsport and we all should just leave it at that.

If the people I've mentioned in here happen to read this? Give Lance the respect he deserves, apologise, and gain some etiquette on using the internet, and your platform that you've worked hard to gain, for good.

If by some miracle Lance is reading this, I hope you're alright and can move on from this weekend as soon as possible.
