Unceremonious: Esteban Ocon expected to exit Alpine ahead of Abu Dhabi finale, Doohan to debut

Alpine’s only race winner - under their current moniker - Esteban Ocon is set to depart the team ahead of the Abu Dhabi finale this week. His replacement will be Jack Doohan, who’ll make his F1 debut ahead of his first full season in 2025.

Ocon has raced for the team since 2020 first, under the Renault brand, before they changed to Alpine in 2021, and has appeared 106 times for the French team taking a famous win in Hungary in 2021 alongside three other podiums - one in Sakhir in 2020, another in Monaco in the 2023 season with his last coming in São Paulo this season.

The French driver, who made his F1 debut with Manor Racing in 2016 before joining Force India/Racing Point and then the Renault/Alpine set up, leaves the team with a considerable lack of ceremony, considering what he achieved with a midfield team, but can probably walk away with his head held high, despite a poor final race with the team, and look forward to his new surroundings with Haas from the end of season test onwards.

Doohan, who finished third in F2 in 2023, has filled the reserve role this season and is set to be rewarded for his patience with a run in Abu Dhabi.
