Valentine’s F1 names

Alex Johnston

Happy Valentine’s Day to those who celebrate it! As always, we can find a way to make it about F1, so here’s a valentine’s themed grid! I feel it’d be wise not build this one up anymore…

Brendon Heart-ley

What’s Valentine’s Day with a heart? In this particular case, Brendon Hartley makes a good choice here. He was solid in F1, but nothing special - he did however get a second chance and is a multiple WEC race winner, including three Le Mans 24h victories.

Pedro de la Rose-a

Flowers anyone? A big bunch of De La Rose-a’s for your significant other? Nice gift. He was a very good servant in F1 with 104 race starts for a multitude of teams, including Jaguar, McLaren and Arrows among others.

John Love

All you need is love right? I’d hazard a guess the majority of our readers have never heard of John Love, however. Mr Love raced 10 times in F1 between 1962 and 1972 under a Rhodesian flag, scoring one podium. A new name for some of our readers, that I’m certain of.

Valentine-o Rossi

I know, I know…”he never raced in F1”, blah blah blah. I get it, but what you don’t get is how tricky it was coming up with ideas for this article. ‘ The Doctor’ is a multiple MotoGP champion but has tested with Ferrari back in 2006, even disappointing Michael Schumacher by not pursuing an F1 career. Very high praise.

Tony Gaze

“To look steadily and intently, especially in admiration, surprise, or thought” - to ‘gaze’. You couldgaze into your significant other’s eyes or at a screen to watch F1 if you wish..As far as Tony Gaze’s F1 career is concerned, he entered four races in 1952, started three and finished one. Nothing to write home about; but useful for Valentine’s Day…just.

Honourable mention: Robert Doornbos

Given the er…connotations of Valentine’s Day and things you might associate it with, it’s worth seeing what this particular former driver is up to these days. He co-founded the company Kiiroo, just Google it..I’m not writing it here!
