Will Mclaren Dominate the Rest of the Season?

by Sophia Fallows

After the previous few race weekends, we’ve seen a massive improvement in Mclarens performance and increasingly rapid pace. Leaving the rest of the drivers fighting in their dust, are Norris and Piastri set to be this years unsung heroes?

With Lando leading for the majority of Zandvoort leaving Max Verstappen, current world champ, trailing behind him over ten seconds infront of the Redbull. Eventually the margin of victory was 22.896 seconds. In addition to this, Lando Norris is only a mere 70 points away from the Dutch Red Bull driver in the driver standings.

The Australian McLaren driver Oscar Piastri is only in his second season and is already battling with some of the most experienced drivers on the track.

📸 Piastri has the most points of any driver in the last five F1 races.

After some difficult races with the old setup McLaren swiftly adaptation to new upgrades has resulted in outperforming the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull.

McLaren used a combination of strategic pit stop, aerodynamic improvements, and strong driving performances to outpace the other teams. Their focus on efficiency and speed seems to have played a crucial role in the performances in the last few races. The pit stop strategies have been quicker than ever being more efficient allowing them to minimise time off the track and maintain a competitive advantage during the race.

In Norris’ own words: “But he seemed to just keep dropping off and my pace was getting better, so it’s a nice feeling inside the car and especially when I got past. I could just get comfortable, I could push, I had clean air and that’s always a big help.”

Can McLaren sustain this for the next nine events?

An interesting talking point in what is rapidly becoming the best season for many years. For Mercedes it must be especially frustrating as their own power unit is leading them off the grid.
